Who Is TEMPEST?
TEMPEST is a boy group formed by Yuehua Entertainment, a Chinese entertainment company with a Korean subsidiary that also manages groups like EVERGLOW and UNIQ. The group’s name means “violent storm,” reflecting their ambition to bring “bright and powerful energy” to the K-pop market.

How TEMPEST Was Formed

Hwarang, under his birth name Song Jae-won, competed on MBC’s Under Nineteen in 2018 and was eliminated in episode 12. Hanbin competed on Mnet’s I-Land in 2020, where he ranked 10th before being eliminated in part 2. He later left Belift Lab and signed with Yuehua Entertainment in June 2021.
On June 8, 2021, Yuehua Entertainment trademarked the names Tempest, TPST, and 템페스트. The group’s official SNS accounts opened on December 31, 2021, followed by the release of teaser photos for seven members on January 3, 2022.
Official Debut
TEMPEST was originally scheduled to debut on February 21, 2022, but the date was postponed after all seven members tested positive for COVID-19. The agency announced the delay on February 14, 2022, and the debut was rescheduled to March 2, 2022.
