Who Is HARUA?
HARUA is one of four Japanese members of &TEAM, a group that also includes members from Korea and Taiwan. He joined the debut lineup through &AUDITION, where he placed second in the final rankings . Within &TEAM, he is officially positioned as a vocalist, and his performance style has been noted for its clarity and tonal control.
Before joining HYBE, HARUA trained at Stardust Promotion, a well-known Japanese entertainment agency, from roughly 2019 to 2021 . His path to K-pop-adjacent stardom was not direct; he initially pursued dance-focused training in Tokyo before discovering the &AUDITION audition through his interest in K-pop.
Early Life and Background
HARUA was born in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Publicly available information about his family is limited. He has mentioned that his grandfather was a carpenter and that he briefly dreamed of becoming one himself as a child . He also studied piano during his elementary school years.
His interest in entertainment developed through his mother, who frequently took him to concerts. According to profile accounts, this exposure sparked his desire to become a performer. He later moved toward dance training rather than acting, attending a performing arts-oriented school environment .
While in his upper elementary years, HARUA was scouted in Tokyo’s Takeshita Street and joined Stardust Promotion. Because his family lived in Nagano, he traveled to Tokyo roughly every two weeks for training during this period .
Career Journey
Stardust Promotion and Early Training
From approximately 2019 to 2021, HARUA was affiliated with Stardust Promotion’s newcomer division . During this time, he focused primarily on dance practice rather than acting. His training was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and his interest gradually shifted toward K-pop after watching audition programs like Nizi Project.
The &AUDITION Audition
HARUA initially attempted the Nizi Project male audition route, but when its timeline became uncertain, he applied for HYBE’s &AUDITION. He did not pass the in-person audition on his first attempt. Around the time he was entering high school, HYBE contacted him directly, and he moved to Korea to continue training .
&AUDITION – The Howling – began airing on July 9, 2022. In the final episode on September 3, HARUA placed second overall, securing his place in &TEAM alongside K, FUMA, EJ, NICHOLAS, YUMA, JO, TAKI, and MAKI .
Debut and Group Activities
&TEAM released their debut EP, First Howling : ME, on December 7, 2022 . The group followed with First Howling : WE in June 2023 and First Howling : NOW in November 2023. In 2025, &TEAM made their official Korean debut with Back to Life on October 28 .
HARUA has participated in the group’s full discography and promotional activities, including Japanese and Korean music show appearances. In 2026, he appeared as a solo cover model for the May issue of MAQUIA, a Japanese beauty magazine, and discussed his interest in nail art and sticker collecting in the accompanying interview .
Acting
In May 2023, HARUA made a brief acting appearance alongside members YUMA, TAKI, and MAKI in episode 3 of the Japanese drama Chocolate Doctor (Dr. Chocolate). They portrayed members of a fictional popular idol group . This remains his only publicly documented acting credit.
Group Role and Artistic Identity
HARUA’s official position within &TEAM is vocalist . His vocal tone has been described in Japanese media as clear and capable of adapting to different song moods, particularly in tracks that require a lighter, more delicate delivery. He is not listed as a rapper or primary dancer in official materials.
In variety content, HARUA has taken on a self-described “tsukkomi” role-the straight man who reacts to the group’s more chaotic members. In a 2026 MAQUIA interview, he explained that he noticed no one was calling out the members’ unpredictable behavior during their solo concerts, so he naturally stepped into that role . This reflects a developing on-camera personality distinct from his vocal performance.
MBTI note: Different profile databases list conflicting types for HARUA. Some cite ESFJ, others ISTJ or INFP . Because no official source has settled on one, this profile treats his MBTI as unconfirmed rather than choosing a single figure.
