“The Old Me Is Dead”: GOT7’s Jay B Reflects on Past Private Life Controversies
GOT7’s Jay B Opens Up About His Past Controversies
GOT7 Jay B is reflecting on his past controversies and the responsibility he feels as a public figure. During a new interview on October 27, 2026, the singer spoke honestly about mistakes from his past, his relationship with fans, and how his attitude toward being a celebrity has changed.
One particular statement caught fans’ attention. Jay B described his former self as someone who no longer exists, saying that he has changed and been reborn.
His comments have attracted attention because they address incidents that previously created discussions among GOT7 fans and the wider K-pop community.
Jay B Admits That He Should Have Been More Responsible
According to an interview published by Starnews, Jay B discussed the criticism surrounding his personal life and acknowledged that he had not always considered his responsibilities as a celebrity.
He explained that when he was not attending events or working, he often did not think of himself as a public figure. For example, while walking around the streets of Hapjeong, he simply saw himself as an ordinary person.
However, he now believes that he should have been more conscious of his public position and the responsibility that comes with it.
Jay B also admitted that he had been careless in the past and had spent considerable time reflecting on his actions.
His comments suggest that he has gained a different understanding of celebrity life and how his behaviour can affect the people who support him.
What Were Jay B’s Previous Private Life Controversies?
Jay B’s latest comments brought attention to two incidents that previously generated online discussions.
1. The 2021 Instagram Live Controversy
In May 2021, Jay B faced criticism after photographs showing nude female body parts became visible on the wall during an Instagram Live broadcast.
The images were discussed widely online, with fans expressing different opinions about the situation.
Following the incident, his agency, H1GHR MUSIC, released an official statement. The company explained that the photographs were the work of a fashion photographer and that Jay B was interested in photography and art.
However, the agency and the singer apologised for carelessly showing the images during a live broadcast watched by people of different ages.
The agency also promised to take greater care in the future.
2. The 2023 Instagram DM Controversy
Jay B faced another wave of online discussion in July 2023 after a non-celebrity woman shared screenshots of private Instagram direct messages allegedly exchanged with the singer.
According to SBS Star, the conversation began when Jay B replied to one of her Instagram Stories. Their messages included questions about her daily activities, social life and interests.
The screenshots quickly spread across online communities, leading to different reactions from fans and netizens.
Some questioned his decision to contact a non-celebrity through social media, while others argued that private conversations should not automatically become public controversies.
The woman later clarified that the screenshots were genuine and explained that they were not in contact anymore. She also asked people to stop making additional comments about the conversation.
Jay B did not formally respond to the online discussion at that time, according to SBS’s July 2023 report.
“The Old Me Is Dead”: Jay B Talks About Personal Change
One of the most talked-about parts of the October 27 interview was Jay B’s statement about leaving his past behind.
He expressed gratitude toward people who have recently started supporting him but also hoped they would not investigate every detail of his earlier life.
He described his former self as gone and said he had been reborn.
The statement appears to reflect his desire to move forward with a different mindset rather than continue living according to his previous behaviour.
It was not simply a discussion about his music career. Jay B also addressed the personal lessons he believes he has learned through his experiences.
Jay B Says He Feels Sorry to His Fans
During the interview, Jay B also spoke about the importance of his fans and how the earlier controversies affected his feelings toward them.
He explained that he sees himself as something similar to an MP3 player for his supporters. Although he cannot solve their personal problems directly, he hopes his music can provide comfort and support.
He also acknowledged feeling sorry when problems arose because he knew that his actions could disappoint people who had supported him.
Jay B added that he wants to repay his fans through his future activities and music.
These comments showed that his relationship with fans remains an important part of his career.
Jay B’s Career and New Music in 2026
Jay B originally debuted in 2012 as part of JJ Project with Jinyoung. In 2014, he debuted again as a member of GOT7 and became the group’s leader.
Over the years, he has developed his career as both a group member and a solo artist.
On October 27, 2026, Jay B released his third single, Chptr. 1, beginning a new single series. The release includes two tracks, “Honeydew” and “Sweetie.”
The release marks another step in his continuing musical journey as he balances his identity as a solo artist and a member of GOT7.
What Jay B’s Latest Interview Means for His Future
Jay B’s latest interview offers a more personal look at how he views his past and present.
Rather than avoiding questions about earlier controversies, he openly discussed the responsibility he believes he should have taken more seriously.
At the same time, his comments do not mean that every fan must immediately change their opinion of him. Fans can appreciate his willingness to reflect while also having their own feelings about what happened.
For Jay B, the important message appears to be about personal growth, accountability and moving forward.
Whether this new chapter changes public opinion will depend on his future actions as much as his words.
